What an amazing start to the road season!
This year, we have moved the start of our Tuesday Social Rides from St. Pauli to Ballindamm. Those that have been with us for the past four years know that Wohlwillstraße, and more specifically, the Kandie Shop has been our base for the majority of the social rides.
As one of the defining elements in the first year of the Kandie Gang, Kerstin opened up the Kandie Shop to us, allowing us to leave things like jackets and backpacks at the shop when we went on tours. Upon our return, we would hang out and have a cold drink and chat afterward.
Last year, that changed when Kerstin Rose lost ownership of the Kandie Shop, making it no longer possible to use the Kandie Shop as a base for our rides. Kerstin also decided to step away from the Kandie Gang for good in September 2024 (the first time being the end of 2021 when she spent a good portion of her time in Spain).
Another reason we decided to search for a new base for social rides was the fact that Wohlwillstraße was quite full when over sixty cyclists show up to get ready to ride. This was made vocal by the employees of neighboring business Suicycle who felt we were “in the way” as they were going about their business.
To make a long story short, our physical connection to St. Pauli had been broken, meaning we needed a new base for our social rides.
Which brings us to the beginning of the Kandie Gang Season Opener, 2025.
This year, we’re excited to be partnering with Rose Bikes, who have graciously extended their soon to open Hamburg flagship store to us. From here, we’ll be able to do all the things we did at the Kandie Shop and more.
